I have worked in Education since 2013. I have worked in a number of secondary schools in Essex and Suffolk as a classroom assistant, trainee teacher, and cover teacher. In schools I taught Mathematics to students at (Key Stage) KS3 (years 7-9) and KS4 (10-11 GCSE) levels.
Since becoming a full-time private tutor in June 2016, I have widened my experience by successfully teaching Mathematics at KS2 (years 3-6), and KS5 (A-Level and International Baccalaureate) levels. I have also tutored students towards their 11+ and 13+ school entrance examinations, BioMedical Admissions Tests for entrance to University, and the Numeracy Test for prospective QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) trainees.
I decided to cease working full-time in school in June 2016. I now concentrate full-time on private tuition in Colchester, North Essex and South Suffolk.
I have an excellent relationship with pupils of all ages with a caring approach aiming to build students’ confidence. I have a constant focus on high quality work with the highest expectations of myself and my students.
I have a current valid CRB/DBS certificate that remains up to date via the update service and is available for inspection.
Prior to working in education, I spent more than thirty successful years as an IT professional. I worked for twenty-three years in the City of London building, supporting and managing financial computer systems. I have considerable experience in customer-facing support, software development, analysis and design. From 1995 until 2012 I was a project manager of large-scale financial software developments.
My career demanded a high level of spoken and written English, and excellent communication skills. I devised and implemented Quality Assurance procedures in several companies. I am expert in specifying detailed requirements for various types of organisation, having worked with personnel at all levels of seniority.
My qualifications are primarily in Mathematics and Software Engineering at Brunel University and The University of East Anglia. I attended Northgate Grammar School in Ipswich in the 1970s. I have a wide range of other interests that enable me to continue my research and writing, mainly in Genealogy and History.

Lessons

One-on-One lessons are usually one hour in duration.  Small group tuition is also possible.

I maintain a separate file on each student and a record of each lesson which is reported to parents or guardians. All records are available for inspection by students and their parents or guardians.

I work to a proven National-Curriculum-based syllabus appropriate to the age and school-year of each student. I work in conjunction with students' school work at any time but I also aim to cover the syllabus during the course of the academic year. Where possible, I also challenge students with further or higher level work.

For exam-year students especially, there is a gradual progression towards exam level problem-solving and exam-paper practice in order to prepare for the actual exams, which can be a daunting experience for many.
